Yreka ( /waɪriːkə/ wy-ree-kə) is the county seat of Siskiyou County, California, United States. The population was 7,765 at the 2010 census, up from 7,290 at the 2000 census.
In March 1851 Abraham Thompson, a mule train packer, discovered gold near Rocky Gulch while traveling along the Siskiyou Trail from southern Oregon. This discovery sparked the California Gold Rush from California's Sierra Nevada into Northern California. By April 1851, 2,000 miners had arrived in 'Thompson's Dry Diggings' to test their luck, and by June 1851, a gold rush 'boomtown' of tents, shanties, and a few rough cabins had sprung up. Several name changes occurred until the little city was called Yreka. The name comes from the Shasta /wáik'a/, the name for nearby Mount Shasta. The word means 'north mountain' or 'white mountain'. Mark Twain, in his Autobiography (p. 162, Harper/Perennial Literary, 1990), tells a different story:
Well-known poet Joaquin Miller described Yreka during 1853–1854 as a bustling place with '.. a tide of people up and down and across other streets, as strong as if a city on the East Coast'. Incorporation proceedings were completed on April 21, 1857.

The Northern California Karuk Tribe opened the new Rain Rock Casino on April 17, 2018. It is located in the southeast corner of Yreka on a 60-acre site immediately east of Interstate 5 off exit 773.

In December 2013 the Karuk Tribe signed a gaming compact with Gov. Brown, which authorizes up to a maximum of 1,500 slot machines at this casino. The State Assembly ratified the compact on August 19, 2014. There are also signed agreements with the city of Yreka and the California Department of Transportation.

The Rain Rock Casino project was planned in 2 phases. Phase 1 is finished and open for visitors. Phase 2 will add 20,000 square feet of gaming space (56,000 total), 300 additional slot machines, 8 additional table games, an 80-room, 46,000 sq-ft hotel and 500 additional parking spaces.

The Karuk Tribe plan to open their new casino in Yreka in February. The Rain Rock Casino is 36,000 square feet and will feature 500 slot machines, 8 table games and a restaurant.

A gaming compact was agreed upon in 2013. Soon after plans were in the works for the casino.

Construction of Rain Rock was planned in two phases. The casino building was phase 1 and is opening now. It includes the casino, parking and a restaurant with seating for 100 guests. .
